Brick House Plantation has been in the Jenkins family on Edisto Island, South Carolina for over 200 years. Currently, only ruins remain (also known as the Paul Hamilton House). It changed hands many times before coming to the Jenkins family. [1]

  • Thomas Sacheverell conveyed the property to John Williams before 1726.
  • Williams sold Brick House to Paul Hamilton Sr. in 1726.
  • Inherited by Paul Hamilton Jr. @ 1739.
  • Sold to John McLeod @ 1739.
  • McLeod estate sold to William Maxwell in 1769.
  • Bought by Joseph Jenkins in 1798.
  • Taken over by Joseph Evans Jenkins @ 1816.
  • Restored to Joseph Evans Jenkins 27 April 1866.

IN 1866, Brick House was occupied by 12 families of freed people (21 adults, 19 chidlren). [2]
